The Siege of Porter
The Siege of Port Arthur was the longest and most violent land battle of the Russo-Japanese War.
The Siege of Port Arthur saw the introduction of much technology used in wars of the 20th century. Including massive 11 inch mortars capable of hurling 500-kilogram shells over 8 kilometers, as well as rapid-firing light howitzers, Maxim machine guns, bolt-action magazine rifle. Other than just guns also barbed wire entangles, electric fences, arc lamp searchlights, tactical radio, hand grenades, trench warfare, and the use modified naval mines as land weapons.

The one on the right (pointing left) is a rework on which the grips were replaced with horizontally grooved panels. The fourth one is in rather poor condition but serves to show the gun’s most striking feature, the swing-out sideplate. Each case of guns contains items from the period in which the guns were the state of the art. In this case, for example, there are medals from the Sino-Japanese War (1894-95), Boxer Rebellion (1900) and Russo-Japanese War (1904-05).
THE ARMAMENT AND EQUIPMENT OF THE FLEET
Most of The Guns In The Russian Service Are Manufactured At Obukoff Works - The Balance Come From Canet.
The Obukoff Works On The Neva Are A State Establishment, And Under The Control Of The Navy. They Were First Started In 1863, And Have Grown Steadily Ever Since. At The Present Time They Have A Capacity For Some 800 Guns In Hand At Once, In Addition To Armor, And Machinery. About 3000 Men Are Employed Here.
Obukoff Guns Are Noticeable In That Their Energy Is Relatively A Little Less Than That Of Foreign Pieces. They Are Made Very Strong, And The Russians Are Proud Of The Fact That None Have Ever Burst.
The Breech Mechanism Is An Adaptation Of The Canet, - The Obukoff Gun Is Altogether More Or Less After The Canet Pattern. The Newest 6-In. It Is Practically A Simplified 15-Cm. Canet.
This Simplicity Is Essential, As The Russian Bluejacket Is Not Easily Able To Master Intricacies Of Mechanism. It Is A Singularly Workable Piece, Heavy For Its Size (It Is 45 Cal. Long), With A Single-Action Self-Locking Breech. It Is Doubly Impossible To Fire The Gun Unless The Breech Be Locked.
